Ben Saunders - North Pole Speed Record

Ben Saunders is first and foremost a polar athlete, and we at Erskine Design had the massive pleasure of working with him and Andy (his expedition manager) to create a site for his North Pole Speed Record expedition. Although working on one of the tightest deadlines ever, we created a site that was well received by the design community let alone the client, and functioned like a dream thanks to The Swinbrook.

In hindsight, the tight deadline was an interesting way to get the work done. We were blazing so fast we didn’t really have time to stop, stare and ponder; something that nearly all designers do. It therefore didn’t suffer any self-soubt or radical changes or any other consequences that come from staring at a design for too long, which was nice.

We played with some nice layouts throughout the site, making sure each page presented the content in different ways to keep it interesting throughout, and the use of muted colours and simple, effective typography help the site say “polar” and “modern”.
