With the iPhone finally being released soon here in the UK, the mobile web is "about to explode", according to various sources. Explode in a good way, I presume. The question is, with the arrival of this landmark in the evolution of the mobile web, will us web-people have to reconsider the way we deal with this technology.
I read Cameron Moll’s Mobile Web Book over the summer, and although it was a nicely written and well presented document, it didn’t really solve my ignorance about how to deal with the mobile web. Prior to reading, I simply created nice HTML and CSS, and as long as it seemed to look ok in Opera Mini, I was as happy as Larry. The thing was, Cameron’s book gave three solutions as how to deal with mobiles, one of which being exactly what I had been doing. I don’t know why, but this kinda frustrated me. I felt like I should be doing more, I guess.
A few months on however, with this knowledge, I’m not too fussed about the mobile web. No one I know ever uses it on a regular basis, rarely finding it useful when they do. As long as I’m using nice code to make my websites and checking it all looks decent enough in Opera, I’m happy enough to pretty much ignore it.
What about you beloved readers? Do you even consider mobile technologies when making sites? Do you use special style sheets, or not give a shit?

I used to do a lot of work explicitly for mobile phones - mobile portals etc., so at that time, I cared about it a lot.
To begin with, the novelty of accessing the internet from my mobile was fun, but it’s not something I do that often.
I’ve only been likely to check football scores on the BBCs mobile site, but I don’t think I’d ever feel the need to check a blog or personal site with a mobile phone.
I have checked my site with my Sony Ericsson K750i, and it looks ok, but I checked out of curiosity rather than necessity.
